here’s my take on rihanna’s new music video

i’m speaking strictly based on my opinion of the situation because i, personally, do not care for rihanna’s music in the least bit. that being said, yeah the video’s a little crazy and graphic. but every single day, there are movies on television that show way worse blood, gore, and violence than rihanna’s video does.

to all these parents who are saying that they want the video taken off the air because it’s too violent for their children to watch, the answer is quite simple. DON’T LET THEM WATCH IT. a very simple and logical question would be, “why were your kids watching it in the first place?” as a parent, you should already be monitoring what your kids are watching and the music they are listening to. i can guarantee that most of the music played on BET is inappropriate for kids to listen to anyhow, so why is rihanna’s video any different? even when i hear my own little brother and sister (5 and 10 respectively) sing along to certain songs, i voice my opinion on how it’s not appropriate for their age. but there’s not much i can do seeing as i’m not one of their parents.

ultimately, it is a parent’s responsibility to ensure that their children are being exposed to material that is acceptable for their age group only. meaning, don’t let them watch rated r or pg 13 movies if they’re not the suitable ages (those ratings are there for a reason people), don’t let them listen to music that has swear words or lyrics on inappropriate topics, don’t let them watch television programs, including music videos, that are obviously beyond their maturity level, and i can’t forget to mention video games! i bet at least half of the parents that are complaining about this music video let their kids play video games that involve violence and breaking the law in some form (Halo, Grand Theft Auto, Need for Speed, & Call of Duty just to name a few). These games also have age ratings that must be paid attention to.

whether you like it or not, violence and sex and other controversial subjects are out there in many different forms of entertainment. it is your job, parents, to protect your kids from such things. eventually they will have to be exposed to it but when the time is right. for now however, it is your sole responsibility, not rihanna’s. BE A PARENT and i promise all will be solved.
